Road work in the Royal National Park in October to replace six road drains will result in
road closures and detours required from 9:30am – 3:30pm starting Wednesday 24 October to Thursday 31 October 2012 (excluding weekend of 27 & 28 October).

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is ready to start road work within the Royal National Park to replace six individual storm water drain structures which are under the road. This $360,000 project is fully funded by the NSW Government. Please see the map below to see where the work is taking place.

This essential work involves vegetation trimming, excavation, installing drain structures before road restoration work at the six locations through the Royal National Park. This work will ensure the longevity of the roads, especially during storms, while improving road safety.

Work has been programmed to minimise impacts to residents and businesses in Bundeena and Maianbar as well as tourists visiting the Royal National Park. We have scheduled the road closures to start and finish around school hours to minimise disruptions.

Keep up-to-date on any changes to the work by viewing the mobile electronic sign placed at the intersection of Bundeena and Maianbar Roads or www.livetraffic.com. The message will change to let residents know if bad weather delays road work and the road is opened. Please see the map below.

Work will be done in two stages. Stage one work has the most impact for motorists and involves:

  • Road closures between Farnell Avenue / Princes Highway and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive / Bundeena Drive from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Wednesday 24 October to Wednesday 31 October 2012. Although the road will be open on the weekend of Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October 2012. See the map overleaf for more information on the location.
  • Motorists need to detour south from Princes Highway via McKell Avenue and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive to Bundeena Drive. Please plan extra travel time as the detour can take up to 40 minutes.

Stage two work has minimal impacts for motorists and involves closing Sir Bertram Stevens Drive between Lady Wakehurst Drive and Garie Beach Road during the same hours in mid November 2012. Please view mobile electronic signs in the area for up-to-date information on scheduled dates of work, which is dependant on stage one work completion.

During this work please follow the signs, including reduced speed limits, and follow the direction of traffic controllers.

RMS apologises for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciates your patience while this important work is undertaken.
