Bundeena Maianbar’s needs are being overlooked with the current dredging of the Port Hacking.

While Sutherland Shire is overseeing the dredging work it is being funded by the Department of Environment and Climate Council (DECC). As such DECC is also determining which channels to dredge. Currently, the plans only include the dredging of the main navigational channel from Burraneer Point to Bass and Flinders Point.

Left out of the dredging schedule is the ferry route which runs from Bundeena Wharf to Burraneer Point. Concerns have been raised that during low tide a high swell could cause the ferry hull to bump against the shallow bottom and possibly breach it. The ferry could travel from Bundeena Wharf directly to the main navigational channel but the extended travel could jeopardise connection times with the train. As well the extra fuel costs could eventually be passed on to commuters in higher fares.

Also left out are Maianbar residents with boats.  The channel into Fishermans Bay has been filling with sand over time and is now landlocked at low tide. Residents have put forward a petition to have the dredging done before the current dredges leave in December.
