Bundeena locals gathered on Horderns beach for the first Bundeena Corroboree.

The aboriginal word Corroboree usually implies a gathering, meeting and sharing for most indigenous communities throughout Australia, despite their being many differing languages and dialects.  Such gatherings are usually for community ceremonial or healing rituals, or in modern times, an excuse for a party, – to sing, dance, and make merry and welcome.

As with our previous ‘GetUp Gathering’, the First Bundeena Corroboree was another beautiful and comfortable way of meeting and gathering via our unique Australian ways of sharing.   As is so often demonstrated within most cultures at most national and global levels of integration, ‘Going Forwards Together’ requires listening to others to determine positive outcomes, especially in a multicultural and indigenous context.  The Sydney Olympic Games and World Youth Days best illustrate that spirit of sharing and healing, regardless of cultures and beliefs.

The Kanyini Film by Uncle Bob Randall of the Mutujulu People from Uluru was a very powerful portrayal of the current climate of change.  Archive footage provided a strong background to evoke current sentiments for our present reconciliation process.  Many thanks to Tim Cole for the initial GetUp Gathering for Reconciliation and the film, and further thanks to the Bundeena RSL and Joy and Val of the Day Club for the use of their audio visual gear in the Gunyah Room.

We are almost certain to gather again, and probably in a more party like ‘knees up’ mode to share cultures with movers and shakers to suit – hopefully with our best Bundeena musos, – probably on Market Days in our unique Bundeena Style and as an ‘Art of Living’.
