NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has put in a new online wave warning system for tourists visiting the popular Figure Eight Pools.
The warning system forecasts tidal conditions up to four days in advance and gives risk ratings of how safe it is to visit the pools. The risk rating work similarly to bush fire risk ratings with indicators of Extreme, High, Moderate, Low, Very Low
The warning system was put in place as a result of several serious incidents where visitors have been washed off the rocks from large tidal swells.
The warning system can be viewed on the NPWS Website.
