The corner store LEP hearing date is drawing near and looks to be a contentious affair with both sides hiring high profile lawyers to present their cases.

The LEP hearing in April had been cancelled as a consequence of the developers Mars decision to submit new plans after the orginal plans had been knocked back by Council.

A number of residents have objected to the plans due to the large number of units in the primary commercial area of town. Opinions are mixed on the number of shops being proposed with some saying there are too few while others argue there are too many given the financial viablity of such business in the area.

It’s expected that the one to one building to land ratio will be argued for by the developers and that Council will push for a 50/50 mix between commerical and residential use.

A court appointed  expert assigned to review the DA plans has alreaady indicated he likes the building design as well as commenting on the poor state of the existing buildings in the town centre.

Proceedings commence Thursday August 4th at 9:30am on the corner store site. A second day of proceedings will take place in the city at the LEP court.
