Bundeena 2006 The Year in Review

As the year draws to an end we look at the events that shaped Bundeena Maianbar in 2006.

The year started on sad note when we learnt that our local paper the Village Noise was coming to an end. The Noise had served the Bundeena Maianbar community for 27 issues over eight years. Several months later a new paper aptly named The Paper filled in as did Bundeena’s first online news and information directory Bundeena Info.

A lot of activity took place on the development front. The contentious Bundeena corner store development had not one but two onsite court hearings. The verdict is still pending but one is expected in the New Year. Meanwhile another controversial development which was approved on the old Uniting Church property had broken ground and residents got the first taste of the heavy construction works the town will be exposed to over the next few years.

Bundeena also got a new Doctor down at the Doctor’s by the Sea.

On the political front Bundeena was in the thick of things with the change of  Sutherland Mayor both before and after the fact. A couple of new initiatives were started up during the year including the new Tourism Working Group as well as the new monthly Bundeena Markets by the Sea.

Several events got the residents and visitors out and about including the Art of Living, the Maianbar Street Fair and Art in the Park. In the sporting arena the Breakers excelled and the Touch comp ended on a exciting note. We also can’t forget the Harold Holt Swimming Club whose swims are keeping the waters of Bundeena Maianbar safe for residents. Change is constant and 2007 promises to be no different.
