Monday, 11 December 2006

Bundeena resident and State MP Paul McLeay apologised to Sutherland's ex-mayor Keven Schreibier after comments he had made about him.

Schreibier had been mayor of Sutherland Shire up until recently when he was unexpectedly ousted in a recent Council Chambers vote and replaced by David Redmond in the role.

In a speech to State parliament McLeay had said the new mayor would be "a breath of fresh air". McLeay later apologised for the comment saying "That was an unnecessary slight to the former mayor" and "I should have said, 'I wish David Redmond well, he has got bog boots to fill'". McLeay went on to sing the praises of Schreibier acknowledging his good works as mayor and the important role he had played in the aftermath of the Cronulla riots.

Schreibier had said he was "deeply appreciative" of McLeay's apology.
