Bundeena Creek
Residents have until January 19th to comment on the draft of the Bundeena Creek Estuary Management Plan.

Sutherland Shire Council engaged Gutteridge, Hastings & Davey Pty Ltd (GHD) to develop a Management Plan for Bundeena Creek. The report is prepared as per the recommendations in the Port Hacking Management Plan and in accordance with the NSW Government’s estuary management planning process.

The project is jointly funded by Council and the Department of Environment & Climate Change (DECC). The draft report is prepared in consultation with Councillors, Council staff, representatives of relevant authorities and agencies, local community groups and users of the estuary.

The draft report is based on a study of estuary processes, background information and the results of community and stakeholder consultation. The key issues identified in the investigation include:

  • Flood risk and potential damage caused by the build-up of sand at the mouth of Bundeena Creek;
  • Water quality in Bundeena Creek its primary use;
  • Elevated nutrient concentrations in the creek and its impacts;
  • Degradation of the riparian zone;
  • Impacts of stormwater run-off, erosion, weed infestation and feral animals;
  • Management strategies developed to address the above issues and improvement in the natural functioning of the creek; and
  • Prioritisation and ranking of actions based on a cost/benefit analysis.

The draft report is now available for public exhibition. Details of the exhibition are as follows:
