2008 Council Elections Final Results

Bundeena Maianbar Elected Councillors
Final election counts has resulted in Bundeena Maianbar’s elected Councillors to be Kevin Schreiber (ex Liberal), Carol Provan (Shire Watch Independents) and unexpectedly after preferences George Capsis (Community First Alliance).

First preference counts had seen only a single vote separate Scott Docherty of Labor (3024) from Naomi Waizer of The Greens (3023). Both were well ahead by almost 700 votes of nearest rivals George Capsis of Community First Alliance (2365) and Independent Marie Simone (2269).

With 21 candidates contesting for the 3 Council positions it took 19 rounds of preference distribution counts to determine the final outcome. It was the 18th round of counting that was the pivotal round.

Simone (2585) had been knocked out in round 17 after trailing Capsis (2721) by 136 votes. Capsis was still trailing Docherty (3441) by 720 votes and Waizer (3277) by 556 at this point. However, round 18 saw Capsis leapfrog Docherty and Waizer with 1406 preference votes coming from Simone’s exclusion. This knocked out Waizer for the 19th round but it did little to help Docherty as the overwhelming majority of preferences went to Provan which resulted in Docherty being knocked out and Capsis being elected.

The election outcome see’s only one of the existing councillors (Kevin Schreiber) being reelected back into office. The other two Marie Simone was voted out and Bob Spencer stepped down due to health reasons.

Kevin Schreiber who has been serving in Council for 13 years is joined by former Sutherland Shire Mayor Carol Provan and first time councillor George Capsis.
