The Notorious a replica of a 15th century caravel was moored overnight at Jibbon Beach.

Image

The ship had sailed from Manly with the backing of a 25 knot northwesterly to make it’s way to Jibbon. The stopover was scheduled as part of it’s journey to the Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking in Burraneer Bay where it will be on display daily from 11am to 4pm daily til the 27th September.

The caravel design which the Notorious is based on was developed by the Portuguese for exploration voyages of the Atlantic Ocean and West African coast. The Notorious was the brainchild of Graeme Wylie and his wife Felicite who crew the ship. Wylie’s started building it in 2001 and spent thousands of hours til it’s completion in 2011. It’s maiden voyage was on 17th January 2012 from Port Fairy to Geelong.
ImageImageThe Notorious was last at Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking in April this year. Since then the Wylie’s have sailed it to Queensland and back. Along the way making multiple stops for public viewing.

Sutherland Shire Council will be commencing the second and fourth phases of the upgrades to Bundeena’s Roger Summers Park.

The works are part of an overall plan to redevelop the existing town centre as previously reported in 2007. The second phase upgrade plans were originally announced in 2011.

The construction period for phases two and four will commence in late July and are expected to complete by December. During this time minor traffic delays are expected along Brighton Street and some of the current parking spots on the west side of Brighton Street will be temporarily unavailable.

The upgrade will have a number of improvements including:

  • a new elevated boardwalk footpath on Brighton Street
  • new entry to Sydney Water pumping station
  • reconstruction of northern stairs including lighting
  • raised threshold pedestrian crossing near intersection of Loftus St
  • installation of seating, bollards and bins
  • upgraded drainage works
  • planting and associated works
  • construction of new stepped sandstone wall along Bundeena Creek
  • connecting waterfront path
  • new beach shower
  • performance space

He said the rider on the ground was very lucky today as one of the gentlemen in the white ute was an off-duty paramedic. The paramedic had his full medical kit bag in the back of the ute. The paramedic’s firend tried to call emergency services but had no signal. Another person at the scene contacted 000 and an ambulance was there within 5 minutes.
The car driver was in shock but calmed down after a little chat. However, the rider was hurt pretty bad but on the surface nothing major or critical.
