Bundeena will be host to a rare musical treat Sunday July 8th as two distinguished violists stage a concert in town.

Deborah Lander is one of Australia’s most distinguished and versatile violists. She became a member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra whilst a student at the Sydney Conservatorium, and then moved to London, where she was invited by Sir Neville Marriner to become a member of his prestigious ensemble The Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Since her return to Australia to take up a teaching position in 1992, Deborah has completed a PhD, been the author of the Australian Music Examination Board’s Viola Syllabus and Technical Workbook and released a CD, Viola Vibes. She is also an invited artist at the International Viola Congress in Adelaide.

Steve Dann performs in Bundeena
Steven Dann is one of the world’s foremost viola players and this will be his only East Coast performance, following his visit to the International Viola Congress in Adelaide (June 29-July 4). His last visit to Australia was in 1973, when he performed at the opening of the Sydney Opera House. Since then, he has been principal viola in many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He now divides his time between solo and chamber music engagements and teaching at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto.

The concert will be held in Bundeena Public School’s Memorial Hall at 5pm on Sunday 8th July. The program includes works by Leclair, Beethoven and Milone and will conclude with J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 for two violas.

Seating is limited, and to encourage advance bookings, there is a reduced ticket price of $20 for adults ($25 if purchased on the day) and a Family ticket (two adults and two children) for $45 (not available on the day). Children aged 5-18 years are $10, children under 5 admitted free. Audience members are cordially invited to join the musicians after the concert for champagne and finger food (included in ticket price).

Tickets are available from The Fringe Café, either in person, or by phone or email, at 44 Brighton St. Bundeena, (02) 95273731 or ]]> This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
