Canine Crackdown

Royal National Park No Dogs Allowed Sign
National Parks and Wildlife Service and Sutherland Shire Council will be cracking down on residents walking dogs on local beaches.
A strongly worded letter from NPWS and Council was sent to all Bundeena and Maianbar residents warning them of increased patrols. The patrols will also include those walking their dogs below the high tide mark which would be enforced by Council staff. The enforcement is being stepped up over concerns to native wildlife.

The letter did not mention that dogs are still allowed on Horderns beach during restricted hours (Monday to Friday between 4:30pm to 8:30am). Dog access to Horderns beach was originally  trialled in 2003 for six months without any time restrictions or incidents. However, Council scaled back the hours to appease concerns of vocal anti-dog protesters.
