The last fatal car crash was in 2001 and had taken place at the intersection of Bundeena Drive and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive.

Close Call

The Royal has is ranked in the top 10 worst crash sites for motorcycles. During the first six months of 2006 there were eight motorcycle crashes of which six involved injuries. In a 2004 RTA survey the Royal ranked eighth for routes with the highest number of motorcycle crashes. Between 1998 and 2002 there were 84 bike crashes which resulted in casualties. The actual number of crashes is likely to be higher but many went unreported since riders call family and friends for assistance rather than the police or ambos.
