Royal National Park Death Inquest
An inquest into a suspicious death in the Royal National Park has been referred to the Director of Public Prosecution.

The inquest stems from the death of Janet Campbell who was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in the Royal National Park in March of 2005. Mrs. Campbell a rich widow had been camping with her new husband Desmond an ex-police officer who she had married six months beforehand. The Campbells had pitched a tent five metres from a 40 metre cliff in the park. Mr. Cambpell had told police she had left the tent to go “for a pee” and had heard her sigh and “thought she was playing a game of hiding with me”. He then claimed to have found her body at the bottom of the cliff.

The inquest heard from a number of witnesses including Janet Campbell’s friends and family along with ex-lovers of Des Campbell. Mrs Campbell’s family claimed he had killed her for her money. The court heard that he did not attend the funeral and that the first business day after the death he contacted a real estate agent to sell their $600,000 home and had had also booked a luxury holiday. One week later he was spotted with Goricia Velicanski who he had met on the internet at a 5 star resort in Queensland. He had been having an affair with Ms. Velicanski for 18 months. During his marriage to Janet Campbell he was also simultaenously having a second affair with another women Lynda Rogers. Two months after Campbell’s death he had broke up with both Velicanski and Rogers and then flew to the Philippines to meet Melissa Campbell a night club singer he had met on the internet who whould become his fourth wife.

Des Campbell was the only “person of interest” in the death and did not testify in the inquest. He now awaits a decision from the Director of Public Prosecution.if charges are to be layed. ]]>< Previous Next >[ Back ] All content property of Bundeena Info unless indicated otherwise
