Garie Beach Royal National Park
A group of students and teachers from a high school in Sefton have been evacuated from a campsite in the Royal National Park after their camp site was flooded overnight.

On Sunday, October 25, 27 Year 9 and 10 students and two teachers entered the national park near Garie Beach for an overnight camping trip.

About 9pm the same day, heavy rains deluged the area and began to wash the students’ tents away.

As a result the group tried to call for assistance but had no mobile phone coverage in the area.

This morning the group was able to walk out of the park to Garie Beach, where they took shelter in toilet amenities.

When phone contact was re-established they called emergency services and the Heathcote Rural Fire Service, Ambulance Service of NSW and Police attended.

The students were assessed at the scene by Paramedics and there were no indications of any students suffering from hypothermia or any injuries. No students were transported to hospital.

The Rural Fire Service then loaded the children onto a troop carrier and transported them back to their high school.
