Audley Fishway

Construction of the new fishway at Audley weir is nearing completion.

The primary objective of the fishway is to reduce the detrimental environmental impacts of the weir on the ecology of the Hacking River. It will allow native fish to migrate as part of their cycle between salt-water estuarine and fresh water riverine habitats of the Hacking River catchment.

This will facilitate rehabilitation of the ecosystem and produce habitate more favourable to native fish and less favourable to the introduced gambusia (mosquito fish) that pose threat to native fauna, particularly, threatened frog species.

The fishway is expect to completed in November with an official opening cermony planned.
