RNP Hazard Reduction 9 & 10 September
Thursday, 30 August 2012
The National Parks and Wildlife Service, together with the Rural Fire Service NSW and Fire and Rescue NSW, intend conducting a hazard reduction burn in the northern section, Temptation Creek area, of the Royal National Park.

This burn is currently scheduled to be undertaken on Sunday the 9th & Monday the 10th of September, 2012. The scheduling of the burn is dependant on weather conditions so will be rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.

The burn is part of an on-going program to reduce the fuel levels and risk of fire to properties from
potential wild fires in the vicinity of Grays Point, Kirrawee, Sutherland and Loftus.

The burn is expected to take one to two days, with mopping up operations continuing for several days after. During the burn residents in adjoining suburbs may experience periods of smoke and ash fall. During the burn all tracks and trails will be closed to residents and the general public until the area has been assessed and considered safe.

The risk to properties during the burn is considered to be low, however it is recommended that property owners ensure their properties are well prepared to reduce the risk from embers.

• Remove leaf litter from gutters.
• Remove any items that you may have in the Asset Protection Zone behind your property.
• Ensure that pets are secure within property boundaries and have an area that provides protection
for them.
• Close all windows and remove washing from clothes lines on the day of the burn.
• Stay well clear of fire operations during the burn.
• If you have asthma or a respiratory condition we recommend that you stay inside or plan to be away from the area during the day of the burn.

If you have any further questions or concerns please contact The Royal Area Office on 9542 0632
