Bundeena Powerline Upgrade

Bundeena Powerline Upgrade
Ausgrid has started works for the eventual replacement of the 55 year old powerline which services Bundeena with additional plans to raise the existing powerlines servicing Maianbar.

The existing 11,000 kilovolt undersea cable runs between Bass and Flinders Point to Bundeena wharf.

The landing point for the cable on the Bundeena side is just to the east of the ferry wharf. This section of cable was commissioned back in 1963 and needs to be replaced as it has reached the end of its working life. Replacing it will help improve reliability for residents in the area.

Ausgrid has contracted a specialist to conduct geotechnical investigations along the route of the cable.

The work involves the use of a barge mounted with a drill rig. The drill rig will take core samples of the seabed to assess the feasibility of conducting an underbore for the installation of a replacement cable.

The barge will be in operation between for most of June. The work completion will be dependent on weather conditions and sea state.

The barge will be appropriately marked for navigational hazard purposes and will pose a minimal disruption to vessels navigating this section of Port Hacking.

There are also plans to raise the height of the powerlines that cross the Port Hacking River from Burraneer to Maianbar.
