Maianbar Abduction Attempt
Thursday, 11 December 2008

Police Crime Stoppers

Police have issued a public notice of a possible abduction attempt on a 12 year old girl at Kara Karook Rd Maianbar.

The event occured Wednesday at around 4.45pm when a 12-year-old girl was walking along Kara Karook Rd. As the girl neared an access point to a fire-trail on the road she noticed a red two-door hatchback parked on the road.

A man inside the car allegedly spoke to the girl before he grabbed her on the arm.

The girl pulled away from the man and ran away to a friend’s house before contacting her mother.

Police were called and conducted a search of the area.

Investigators are appealing for a man who might be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as white European in appearance, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, with thinning greyish/brown hair.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the alleged incident, or who saw the man or the red hatchback in the vicinity of Kara Karook Road to contact Sutherland Police on
9542 0899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, parents are being urged to reinforce the ‘safe people, safe places’ message with their children.

Children should be encouraged by their parents to attend a police station, school, service station or shop if something happens.

Police recommended that, where possible, children are escorted to and from school by an adult. If this is not possible, they should walk in groups with other children.
