Starting May 28th the CityRail timetable will be changing for the Illawarra line affecting Bundeena train commuters.

A train journey from Cronulla to Central will increase on average 5 minutes during rush hour services. Additionally train departure and arrival times will be changing from and to Cronulla.

Train departure times from Cronulla will be changing between one to four minutes earlier. For morning rush hour commuters this will mean less time to get from the Cronulla ferry wharf to the Cronulla train station. On the positive side they will have shorter waiting times when connecting between the ferry and train. The normal ferry arrival time is between 20 to 25 minutes passed the hour.

Old Time
New Time 6:31 am
6:30 am 7:32 am
7:28 am 8:36 am 8:34 am

Train arrival times to Cronulla will be arriving a couple of minutes earlier. This will allow greater connection time to get from the train to the ferry as well as extra buffer time should the train be delayed. The normal ferry departure time is 40 minutes past the hour versus the posted 30 minutes past the hour.

Old Time
New Time
4:31 pm
4:30 pm 5:32 pm
5:29 pm 6:32 pm
6:29 pm

The LEP hearing for the corner store development is set to take place on the site at 9:30am on August 3rd and 4th.

Residents who objected to the corner store site plans have recieved notice of the hearing from Pike Pike & Fenwick the legal representatives of Sutherland Shire Council.

As reported previously on BundeenaInfo the scheduled LEP hearing in April had been cancelled as a consequence of the developers Mars decision to submit these new plans.

The ammended plans now reduces the floor space and proposes only 2 shops and 9 units. The original plans submitted in August 2005 had originally called for 4 shops, 11 units and a basement carpark for 28 vehicles. In December 2005 the plans had reduced the number of shops to 3 and units to 10 but had increased the parking to 34 vehicles.

Some residents had objected to the plans due to the presence of the units on what is zoned as a commercial area. Opinions are mixed on the number of shops being proposed with some saying there are too few while others argue there are too many given the financial viablity of such business in the area. It’s expected that the one to one building to land ratio will be argued for by the developers and that Council may push for a 50/50 mix between commerical and residential use.

riaa_beachhouse.jpg A house located on Bundeena’s Horden beach has received a commendation from the The Royal Australian Institute of Architects during it’s annual awards.
The RAIA jury noted the house “[fits] sensitively into its coastal environment of sand dunes and beach shacks”.

The house was designed by Sam Crawford Architects and is raised off the ground, set on steel posts driven into the dune, braced against a north-easterly sea swell that can, at times, send a surge of energy through the dune and into the building fabric. The house is designed to be both strong, and flexible – built of a composite steel/ timber frame, clad in rough sawn plywood and corrugated iron. ]]>< Previous Next >[ Back ] All content property of Bundeena Info unless indicated otherwise

Recruitment for the local surgery Doctor’s by the Sea is ongoing and has expanded to searching for overseas candidates.

In recent times the surgery has had very limited operating hours. This in part was due to the local GP having taken ill. The other factor was the limited usage of the surgery was not sustainable from a business perspective. As a result the local GP took work on at a practice outside of town and is only offering limited services in town at present.

The limited hours has been an issue for older residents since they do not have the facilities to easily access medical services outside of Bundeena Maianbar. Efforts have been made to recruit doctors from within the Sydney area but interest in the role has been low. This is a result of a number of factors including both financial as well as the move in the industry to shared practices or medical centres which offer greater flexibilty for staffing. In a sole practice it’s difficult for a doctor to take vacation or sick days without impacting both patients and revenue.

To address the recruiting issues the role has been advertised overseas. Depending on the qualifications of the overseas candidates there are complications with visa approvals as well as access to goverment medicare funding once they operate in Australia. The search is ongoing but a replacement is expected to be at least several months away.

Fill out our poll and let us know if you would use local medical services.
