Bundeena Grand Stone Chair
The Heritage Walk has a new addition for visitors.

Bundeena’s visitors to the Heritage Walk will now be able to relax and admire the stunning Headland and Wharf views from the Grand Stone Armchair, officially “opened” by the Local Member for Heathcote, Paul Macleay , with assistance from Sutherland Council Bushcare officer Darren Wells on February 28th.

Five  years in the planning and delivery , the chair was designed and funded by local Bundeena resident Roger Norman, and built by master stonemason Chris Van Veen , who donated time, materials and his renowned skills .along with  the “labourers “and stone suppliers Roger Norman, David Lake and David Morgan. The project was completed in heatwave conditions over a three day period last October.

Roger remarked..”…I always had Mrs Macquarie’s Chair the Domain in mind, as it too used large sandstone blocks for a “timeless” feel. Although it has taken a while, Lyn and I are all happy with the final outcome.”

The leaders of the Bundeena Heritage Walk, Brian Venn and Jane Northway have been a constant source of encouragement . The Heritage Walk has provided thousands of visitors with information along with a very pleasant walking trail over the last  five years. Over time, however, some of the plaques have been the targets of graffiti vandals so these  few   locals have  continued  with the Bush regeneration., based on the original Heritage Walk objectives.

Here lies the challenge. New volunteers are needed to restore and  re-plant areas, and maintain the information  guideposts along the trail.

Given the popularity of the New Stone Seat, additional stone benches(or other designs/materials)  are required, at traditional resting spots on the Trail.

Obvious locations are Cabbage Tree Point, the end  of Pacific Parade Maianbar, and the top of Eric street are some likely locations…can you think of others?

Roger and Lyn Norman would like to encourage other residents to adopt the project. Sutherland Council has some stone available, and there are other skilled builders , brickies and tradesfolk who could assist. The finished product needs to be environmentally consistent with its surroundings, and “vandal proof”. Contact Jane Northway 0415 123221 if you wish to help out.
