Rabid Dog
The campaign to expand dog walking on Bundeena Maianbar beaches continues with another meeting planned.

A petition in favour of allowing dog walking on beaches has been signed by several hundred people and is being submitted to Council. The support for the petition has also lead for plans by Councillor George Capsis to introduce a motion in Council for a review of dog exercise areas.

Julie Souter from the Bundeena Maianbar Dog Owners’ Association says a meeting is scheduled for this coming Saturday March 21st 10:30am at the Passionfruit Cafe in Bundeena. In the meantime she encourages her supporters to write and email Sutherland Shire Mayor Lorraine Kelly ( ) the following letter:

Requesting a review of dog exercise areas Bundeena/Maianbar

Dear Councillor Kelly,

I request that Council undertake a review of the dog exercise areas in the two villages. Council has not consulted dog-owners in this area for around ten years. Bundeena residents can only exercise dogs off-leash on Hordern’s Beach during restricted hours. Maianbar residents have no off-leash area at all. Residents, if accompanied by a dog on a lead, are unable to use the only track access between the two villages (a camping ground that is host to thousands of people). We note that our beaches are virtually deserted during the week and rarely utilised during winter, including weekends.  I look forward to your response.

Empty beaches but still no dogs
What is most apparent since council started this ghastly fines business is that Bundeena beaches are empty now. During school hours  there will be no one on Horderns - not a sausage. Even over the past  (hot) weekend, beach-goer numbers were down significantly.
