A police crime scene had been setup in Bundeena's town centre after bones were discovered on a building site.

SX Projects who are heading the construction of the old Uniting Church grounds.had arranged access via the BMA site to simplify the construction of a new sewer line. The entrance via the BMA site was between the Bundeena Newsagency and The Fringe cafe.

The bones had been discovered by Council workers as part of the ongoing inspection of the construction works. Police had been informed and by Thursday evening the area had been sealed off. The search for additional bones went into the night with numerous police vehicles spotted going in and out of the area. Come Friday morning a police 4WD was still blocking off the entrance to the BMA site.

The bones if human were expected to be of Aboriginal origin. The concern of the building site being of Aboriginal signficance had been raised by locals when plans for the development were originally submitted. Bundeena had orginally been home to the Targarigal people dating back several thousand years.

Police stated that no missing persons had been listed for the Bundeena Maianbar area. After analysis by a pathologist from Glebe Coroners Court  the bones were determined to be of animal origin, mostly likely that of a deer or a kangaroo.
