Local in for Music Award

Brad Cole
Bundeena based singer-songwriter Brad Cole is the sole Aussie in contention for a prestigious Canadian music award.

When Brad made a submission to the Ontario Independent Music Awards, he had no idea he would emerge as the only Australian in the International Independent Artist category.

“I only found out this week. I can’t believe it,” an excited Brad said yesterday. “This category covers all genres of music, so that makes me even more happy.”

The song that captured the Canadian judges’ attention was Brad’s quirky original, Brazilian, which has not yet been released in Australia.

“I can’t believe it. I’ve got a new single out this month, Lovin’ Man, from my forthcoming album, a new video clip all but completed, I’ve been in the recording studio and now this. It’s certainly been an amazing ride for me this past week.”

Brad describes Brazilian as a very “groovy” kind of stand-alone song with great potential. It’s about a guy who usually gets socks and undies for his birthday, but not this time! You guessed it … his girlfriend had other ideas.

Brad relocated from Port Macquarie to Bundeena, just south of Sydney, to hone his performance skills on the Sydney circuit and has successfully road-tested enough original songs to make his recording debut.

On the Brazilian track, Brad enlisted some pretty impressive studio personnel, in the form of Lawrie Minson, Michel Rose, Bill Risby, Kere Buchanan and renowned Australian singer Mark Williams on backing vocals. It was recorded at Sydney’s Red Socks Studio.

The winners of the inaugural Ontario Independent Music Awards will be announced at the Phoenix Theatre, Toronto, Canada, on November 15.
