Committee Reports

Helen gave a report on the results of an inspection of the community centre by herself and Neil
Some of the defects noted are:
drainpipes too short, drainage inadequate, rotting wood, rusted steelwork etc. The meeting decided that as there are so many defects an on-site inspection with council staff would be the best way to resolve the problems.
It was moved that Helen contact council and arrange an on-site meeting with council staff to discuss future maintenance of the hall.
Helen Vogt, Neil deNett

Neil advised the meeting about all of the difficulties we are having to trying to get the RTA to re-paint the incorrectly marked double lines south of the Warumbul turn-off. Several letters, emails, person-to-person meetings and phone calls, all to no avail.
Moved that the secretary write to the Minister for Transport complaining about the lack of response from the RTA. Copies to the Premier and senior RTA officer
Neil deNett, Larnie Kellerher

Moved that John Gawthorn contact Carl Rogan about operational difficulties when using Bundeena wharf. The secretary is to write to council when the report from John is to hand.
John Gawthorn, Helen Vogt

General Busines

Tom Ledden expressed concern about the habitat of migratory birds at Maianbar and Bonnie Vale. These birds can be easily disturbed by activity in their vicinity. Bird species, subject to international agreements, which visit Maianbar include:
  • Eastern Curlew (migrates from Siberia, regularly makes annual trip of about 26,000 km)
  • Bar-tailed Godwit (migrates from China)
  • Great(or White) Egret
  • Pied Oyster-catcher.
It is Sutherland Council's responsibility to implement these treaties for the Australian Government.

Moved that this association write to Sutherland Council asking that it:
1) continue to maintain and protect this significant bird habitat and
2) take steps to inform residents and visitors about the important ecological values of this natural area.
