Inspector Martin Hayston, from Sutherland Local Area Command, addressed the meeting about police operations in our district. He gave a brief outline about police activities at Bonnie Vale on Australia Day. Police planning for that day was to pre-empt any trouble and ensure the safety and comfort of visitors.
Inspector Hayston explained that police operations are based on intelligence. He urged residents to report all crime by ringing Sutherland Police Station, the police assistance line or crime stoppers. He said that the level of crime has fallen considerably over the past 10 years in Sutherland Shire. He suggested that a member of the community could attend the Police Accountability Community Team (PACT) forum at Sutherland Police Station.
Superintendent Gavin Dengate, officer in charge of Sutherland Area, will be attending the next progress meeting in Bundeena.
The Chairman moved a vote of thanks for Inspector Hayston for his very informative address.
