Suspension of Standing Orders

Moved Bob Parry-Williams Sec Helen Vogt that standing orders be suspended and council officers be invited to address the meeting.

Des Hewitt addressed the meeting about the parking in the shopping centre and the street up-grade. He said that council is ready to start work, but council officers came to the meeting tonight because of concerns about the angle parking. He explained the council's position and said he was here to listen to residents.

We were told that the plans are complete and any changes would delay the starting time for some months. The secretary pointed out that the arking arrangements that council proposed had been tried years ago but had been changed to the present form because the previous way did not work. Also, the up-grade was planned for 2000, but had been deferred until sewerage works were completed, in 2001. After 6 years a couple of months delay would not matter very much. The meeting supported leaving the parking arrangements as they are. Des Hewitt said he would review the plan and make a recommendation

Committee Reports

Neil reported on the final stage of the Land and Environment Court hearing. The court found in favour of the developer with some minor changes. We have written to the Chief Justice of the Court, lodging a complaint about the court process. The basis of the complaint is that the commissioners did not read all of the submissions before giving firm directions to the developer half way through the hearing. Three persons, who were present at the hearing, submitted statutory declarations confirming this event.

Council has decided not to appeal the judgement. The development will now go ahead.

Clr Spencer Report

Bob Spencer has contacted Paul McLeay about restricting large trucks on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. The road is not considered to be suitable for them and could be a safety hazard.
