Bonnie Vale Bridge
The vital pedestrian link connecting Bundeena and Maianbar will stay open during planned works.

The closure was originally planned as a result of Sydney Water’s plans to replace a section of the old water main located in the Royal National Park. The section being replaced is between the Bonnie Vale camping grounds and Cabbage Tree Creek. The planned works involve replacing the footbridge which runs over the creek and is expected to take up to 10 months.

Concerns had been raised by Maianbar residents as the track is the only pedestrian link between the two villages and there is limited alternative public transport. Of particular concern was residents access to the ferry service running from Bundeena.

Local NSW MP Paul McLeay raised these concerns directly with Nathan Rees the Minister of Water Utilities. The Minister was able to arrange with Sydney Water for the bridge to stay open for access throughout the work activities.

Under the revised opening of the track and footbridge between 7:00am to 5:30pm Sydney Water staff will escort people across the bridge to assist them to negotiate the construction works and equipment present. Outside of these hours the bridge will be cleared of all equipment and be fully available for public use. Sydney Water warns pedestrians to take extra care when using the walking track near the work site.

The work will be carried out between September and December 2007, and between May and June 2008, weather and tides permitting.
