Royal National Park Communities Services Group spokesperson is urging Bundeena Maianbar residents to raise community related concerns and issues when State Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell visits the towns this Sunday 9th January 9:30am at Bundeena Wharf.

Dear friends,

I am told that current plans are that next Sunday, 9th January 2011, Barry O’Farrell will be walking from Maianbar to Bundeena through Bonnie Vale commencing at 8.30am from Maianbar, arriving at Bundeena in time to depart on the 10 o’clock ferry.
He will be talking to local residents about their concerns eg

  • need to upgrade walking track between Maianbar and Bonnie Vale
  • need to dredge channel for ferry to Bundeena and emergency boat access to Maianbar in the event of fires
  • fire issues generally – burn offs, lack of emergency planning
  • lack of appropriate ambulance services for the area – despite representations over several years (including that an ambulance could be housed in old/new fire brigade buildings)

It is likely that local print media will attend and possibly also TV if we can demonstrate that the event will be ‘TV worthy’ ie that there are some interesting individual stories to be heard.

I am told the media and the walking party will probably be at the wharf at around 9.30 am on the 9th but this remains to be confirmed.

On behalf of the Royal National Park Communities Services Group I am seeking feed back in relation to (recent) medical emergency issues  – I believe that the helicopter has had to come out to Bundeena several times this summer.  If anyone has been directly involved in medical emergencies here in recent months – whether for good or for bad – or has witnessed such events, I would be grateful if they could let me know their story, and whether they would be prepared to speak to the media.

Our group is not seeking to promote Mr O’Farrell but to have the special problems that face residents in this area brought to his attention.  Our group is also seeking a commitment on his behalf to take specific action if elected.  The issue of inadequate ambulance services in this area has been brought to the attention of both major State parties for several years now, but to date no positive undertakings have been made, despite Legislative Council committee recommendations that our service be improved.

I would be grateful if you could forward this to any friends who might be interested.

Kind regards
Tamsin Clarke
